Storm Cloud Dreaming: An Ancient Dreamtime Story Brought to Life on Luxurious Silk

Mainie’s Storm Cloud Dreaming scarf invites you to journey across the desert and into the heart of an ancient Dreaming story — all in the timeless elegance of pure silk chiffon.

Handcrafted from 100% pure silk, this beautiful scarf is more than just a fashion statement — it is a piece of living culture and a tribute to the artistry of Christine Nakamarra Curtis, a proud Warlpiri woman from the remote Tanami Desert region of Central Australia.

A Story from the Heart of the Dreaming

The inspiration behind Storm Cloud Dreaming is the time-honoured Warlpiri Water Dreaming story, Ngapa Jukurrpa, passed down through countless generations over tens of thousands of years. Christine’s artwork captures the moment a large storm cloud, formed from the smoke of a fire, was carried across the desert by a bird until it became too heavy and fell to the earth as rain.

Christine’s original painting is alive with spiritual symbolism — flowing patterns and dramatic colours that represent clouds, flooded waters and soakages — all deeply connected to her ancestral homelands.

Christine paints her grandparent’s Dreaming, and every brushstroke pays homage to her unique artistic heritage.
