Style Board - Pantone Colours of the Year 2021

Ultimate Gray Illuminating yellow Pantone colours 2021, Australian merino wool scarf, style board, Mainie Aboriginal design fashion

Mainie’s vibrant 2021 Style Board features the Pantone Colours of the Year, Pantone 17-5104 Ultimate Gray and Pantone 13-0647 Illuminating, and showcases our own exquisite Desert Tracks pure Australian Merino wool scarf.

Each year, the Pantone Colours of the Year announcement is awaited with anticipation by fashion stylists and interior designers the world over. For 2021, Pantone has selected two beautiful colours, Pantone 17-5104 Ultimate Gray and Pantone 13-0647 Illuminating. These colours are the perfect blend for those of us who are beginning the new year with a sense of resolve borne from the uncertainty of the past year and with renewed hopes for a brighter 2021.

Pantone’s subdued and serene Ultimate Gray is the embodiment of timeless style and understated elegance. Grey is such a subtle and peaceful colour. It exemplifies both simplicity and austerity.

The lovely golden warmth of Illuminating is an ideal pairing with Ultimate Gray. Yellow has always symbolised hope and happiness. It is the colour of sunshine and wattle flowers, the renewing powers of nature. Yellow epitomises freshness, energy, optimism and joy.

Mainie’s Style Board demonstrates how the pairing of grey and yellow can be styled for the upcoming changes of season in 2021. Whether transitioning from summer to autumn or from winter to spring, our Desert Tracks scarf from the Mainie Merino Wool Collection will complete your trans-seasonal look.

Each scarf in the Mainie collection is handcrafted in luxurious Woolmark-certified, pure Australian Merino wool, the finest and softest wool in the world. Merino wool is a natural thermo-regulator, it keeps you cool and comfortable in hot weather and warm when the temperature falls.

The Desert Tracks design is based on an original painting by a young and emerging Warlpiri Aboriginal artist, Valma Nakamarra White. Valma comes from a long line of artists and her paintings relate directly to the land, its features, and the plants and animals that inhabit it.

Aboriginal artist, Valma Nakamarra White

Valma’s painting Desert Tracks depicts the ancient Dreamtime story, Warna Jukurrpa, which tells of a mythical snake ancestor who created the water courses in the desert with his tracks. The story was handed down to Valma through many generations and over tens of thousands of years of her Warlpiri ancestors. The Warlpiri Aboriginal people still live on their tribal homelands in the remote Tanami Desert region of Central Australia and maintain a strong connection to their traditional cultural heritage.

Mainie is committed to supporting the empowerment of Aboriginal women in isolated desert communities and their families. We offer opportunities for Aboriginal artists to earn an independent income from their own work and help them preserve their cultural traditions for future generations.

All artwork designs featured in the Mainie collection are ethically acquired under licence, with the artist retaining the copyright to their original work and receiving royalties from all sales.
