Red Bark Trees is based on an original painting by Warlpiri Aboriginal artist, Nicole Napaljarri Stevens.

Aboriginal artist Nicole Napaljarri Stevens Traditional Aboriginal art

Artwork: Ngapi Jukurrpa – Mikanji

Artist: Nicole Napaljarri Stevens

Nicole’s painting depicts an ancient Dreaming story that has been handed down to her over tens of thousands of years through many generations of her Warlpiri ancestors.

Due to the isolation of their tribal homelands in the remote Tanami Desert region of Central Australia, the Warlpiri were among some of the last Aboriginal people in Australia to make first contact with Europeans.

To this day, the Warlpiri people continue to maintain a strong connection to their ancestral lands and traditional culture.

Mainie is committed to supporting Aboriginal women artists to earn an independent income from their own work and preserve their cultural heritage for future generations. A Mainie scarf not just a beautiful piece of wearable art. It is a tangible and meaningful celebration of the survival of the world’s oldest living culture.

All Mainie designs are ethically acquired under licence in accordance with the Indigenous Art Code. Royalties from every sale are paid to the Aboriginal artists and their families.
