Wearable Art with Meaning: The Contemporary Aboriginal Designs of Natasha Davui
In the world of ethical fashion, the most meaningful pieces are those that tell a story - pieces that connect us to culture, place and history while bringing beauty, individuality and intention into everyday style.
The Natasha Davui collection at Mainie embodies this philosophy with effortless grace.
Created by a contemporary Aboriginal artist from Far North Queensland, Natasha’s designs celebrate the enduring relationship between people, Country and culture. Through flowing forms, vibrant palettes and symbolic patterning, her work expresses the wisdom, resilience and spiritual connection of the world’s oldest continuous living culture.
At Mainie, these powerful artworks are thoughtfully transformed into elegant wearable pieces - scarves, ties and pocket squares - crafted through ethical licensed collaborations that honour both artist and story through royalties and cultural integrity.

The Artist: Natasha Davui
Natasha Davui is a contemporary Aboriginal artist with direct ancestral connections to the Gunggari people of the Maranoa River region in South West Queensland and the Djabugay people of the Barron River region in Far North Queensland.
The Gunggari people share deep historical ties with communities such as Woorabinda and Cherbourg, while the Djabugay homelands extend across the rainforest mountains, valleys and waterways surrounding the Barron River.
Through her work, Natasha explores the profound cultural and spiritual relationships between people, water, land and ancestors - reflecting knowledge systems passed down through countless generations, and still guiding Aboriginal communities today.

Purple Connections | Modal Scarf
Natasha’s Purple Connections is a striking visual expression of the unbreakable physical and spiritual bond Aboriginal people share with land, culture and kin.
Rich purple tones and fluid forms evoke stories, ceremonies and ancestral knowledge carried across more than 65,000 years. The design speaks to cultural continuity and resilience - a living connection to Country that endures across time and place.
This artwork is brought to life on a beautifully soft Modal scarf - a lightweight, breathable, plant-based textile that drapes effortlessly and feels luxurious against the skin. Measuring 25cm by 170cm, it is designed for versatile styling while remaining environmentally conscious and vegan-friendly.
Each piece is digitally printed to preserve the vibrancy and detail of the original artwork, and is presented with information about the design and artist. Importantly, royalties from every scarf support Natasha directly, ensuring the story continues to be shared with integrity.

Waterholes | Modal Scarf
Exclusive to Mainie
With its cool, tranquil palette, Waterholes captures the quiet beauty of freshwater billabongs found throughout Australia’s bush landscape.
Deep blues and soft aqua tones reflect the life-giving presence of water, while circular motifs represent waterholes - places of both practical and spiritual importance. Surrounding dotted patterns suggest seasonal rains, bringing renewal and vitality to Country.
Exclusive to Mainie, this design is printed on a soft, plant-based Modal fabric that offers both comfort and sustainability. Produced under formal licence agreements in accordance with the Indigenous Art Code, each piece ensures cultural respect while returning royalties to the artist.
Available online and in-store at The Pier, Cairns, Waterholes is a serene yet powerful addition to any wardrobe.

Waves | Modal Scarf
In Waves, Natasha captures the calming rhythm of the ocean:
“The waves move as one. There is a calmness to it.”
Flowing lines mirror the natural movement of tides and currents, symbolising both the interconnectedness of nature and the enduring strength of culture. Like the ocean itself, the design reflects continuity - a reminder that Aboriginal culture is ever-moving, ever-present and deeply rooted.
Lightweight and fluid, the Modal fabric enhances the sense of movement within the artwork, creating a piece that feels as effortless as it looks.

Blue Connections | Silk Tie & Pocket Square Set
Natasha’s designs extend beyond women’s fashion into refined menswear with the Blue Connections Tie and Pocket Square Set.
Crafted from luxurious silk twill, this sophisticated set is handmade and digitally printed to retain the richness of the artwork. Presented in an elegant gift box, complete with the story behind the design, it offers a meaningful and distinctive option for the modern gentleman.
The artwork reflects the deep cultural connection Aboriginal people share with Country - a story expressed through contemporary design and timeless craftsmanship.
Produced under licence in accordance with the Indigenous Art Code, each set ensures authenticity, respect and direct support to the artist through royalties.
Sustainable Fashion with Cultural Integrity
Every Natasha Davui piece reflects Mainie’s unwavering commitment to ethical Aboriginal fashion.
All designs are created under formal licensing agreements that honour cultural ownership and ensure artists receive recognition and financial return. This is fashion with purpose - where beauty and responsibility go hand in hand.
