The Artwork Story

Blue Connections

The original artwork captures the essence of the deep connection Aboriginal people have with theirland, culture and Country.

Australia is home to the world's oldest continuous living culture, with Aboriginal peoples havinginhabited the continent for over 65,000 years.

The intricate interplay of stories, traditions, and ancestral knowledge passed down through
countless generations encapsulates the resilience and richness of Aboriginal culture. These storiesserve not only as a means of preserving history but also as a guide for living in harmony with the land and all its inhabitants.

The depiction of this connection in art serves as a powerful reminder of the enduring legacy of Aboriginal peoples and their ongoing contribution to Australia's cultural tapestry. It also highlights the importance of recognising, respecting and celebrating Indigenous cultures worldwide.

Natasha Davui is a descendant of the Gunggari and Djabugay Aboriginal peoples. The Gunggari people are from the Maranoa River region of southwestern Queensland and have historical links to the Aboriginal communities of Woorabinda and Cherbourg.

The Djabugay people's traditional homelands stretch across the mountains, valleys, gorges andrainforests of the Barron River region of Far North Queensland.

Artist details

Natasha Davui

Natasha Davui is a contemporary Aboriginal artist based in Far North Queensland.

She proudly descends from the Gunggari people of the Maranoa River region in southwestern Queensland and the Djabugay people, whose traditional Country spans the lush rainforests, gorges, mountains, and valleys along the Barron River in the tropical north.

The Gunggari have ancestral ties to the Aboriginal communities of Woorabinda and Cherbourg, and their cultural heritage is deeply rooted in the vast inland landscapes of Queensland.

The Djabugay people are the Traditional Custodians of the rich and diverse environments of the Wet Tropics region, with a deep spiritual connection to their land that continues to shape their cultural identity today.

Customer Reviews

Mainie is a brand I proudly wear for so many reasons. I love that each scarf has a story and that I know with each piece funds go back to the woman that designed it. I adore the vibrancy of the colours and the high quality, I have had my scarves for many years now and they are so versatile from wearing them to do presentations or going out for lunch. I stand for empowering women and standing proud in your individuality and Mainie embodies this in every way.

Our Mainie scarves have become an essential wardrobe component both at home and when travelling. They serve to elevate any outfit whilst also celebrating Australian First Nations culture with dignity and sophistication. The silk product is beautiful to wear and the merino wool is unbelievable soft and so warm. Lightweight, easy to pack and always commented on.

Tanya, Emily and Elizabeth

I love the Mainie Scarves, for myself and as the perfect gift. They are investment pieces that will be part of your wardrobe for life. I love travel and one or two scarves are always included in my luggage. They are perfect on the plane and for dressing up outfits. I take a Merino scarf for cooler climates and silk ones everywhere else. However, the very best part is the ethical basis of the brand. I know I support a woman artist from a First Nations community when I purchase something from Mainie. They look good and do good at the same time.
