The Artwork Story
Mina Mina Jukurrpa-Ngalyipi
The country associated with this Jukurrpa is Mina Mina, a significant place west of Yuendumu on the traditional homelands of the Warlpiri people in the remote Tanami Desert region of Central Australia.
The ancient Dreaming story follows a group of Warlpiri women of all ages as they journey east from Mina Mina across the desert, gathering food, collecting ngalyipi, or snake vine, and performing ceremonies along the way.
Ngalyipi is a sacred vine traditionally gathered by women. Growing around the trunks and branches of desert oak trees, it has many important ceremonial and medicinal uses.
In this exquisite artwork, Jeanie Napangardi Lewis brings the Mina Mina story to life through intricate forms and radiant colours inspired by the Australian desert.
The design reflects the enduring knowledge, ceremony and spiritual connection of Warlpiri women to their ancestral homelands.
Through this scarf, an ancient women’s journey is transformed into a luxurious piece of contemporary Australian fashion.
About the Artist
Jeanie Napangardi Lewis
Jeanie Napangardi Lewis was born around 1950 on Mount Doreen Station in the Northern Territory. Her traditional country is Mina Mina, west of Yuendumu, approximately 290 kilometres north-west of Alice Springs.
Jeanie’s family lived in and around Mina Mina before moving to Yuendumu and later to the remote community of Nyirrpi, where she has lived for many years.
She began painting with the internationally acclaimed Warlukurlangu Artists Aboriginal Corporation in 2005. Located in Yuendumu, Warlukurlangu is an Aboriginal-owned and governed art centre and an important stronghold for the preservation of Warlpiri art, language and culture.
Jeanie paints the Dreaming stories of her Country, with Mina Mina Jukurrpa appearing consistently throughout her work. Her paintings depict the birds, trees, bush foods and small waterholes of Mina Mina, reflecting her deep cultural and spiritual connection to the land.
Her original artworks are highly sought after and have been exhibited in major galleries throughout Australia and internationally, with her work also represented in the British Museum collection.

Our Happy Customers
Customer Reviews

Mainie is a brand I proudly wear for so many reasons. I love that each scarf has a story and that I know with each piece funds go back to the woman that designed it. I adore the vibrancy of the colours and the high quality, I have had my scarves for many years now and they are so versatile from wearing them to do presentations or going out for lunch. I stand for empowering women and standing proud in your individuality and Mainie embodies this in every way.

Our Mainie scarves have become an essential wardrobe component both at home and when travelling. They serve to elevate any outfit whilst also celebrating Australian First Nations culture with dignity and sophistication. The silk product is beautiful to wear and the merino wool is unbelievable soft and so warm. Lightweight, easy to pack and always commented on.
Tanya, Emily and Elizabeth

I love the Mainie Scarves, for myself and as the perfect gift. They are investment pieces that will be part of your wardrobe for life. I love travel and one or two scarves are always included in my luggage. They are perfect on the plane and for dressing up outfits. I take a Merino scarf for cooler climates and silk ones everywhere else. However, the very best part is the ethical basis of the brand. I know I support a woman artist from a First Nations community when I purchase something from Mainie. They look good and do good at the same time.
