This Ngapa Jukurrpa (Water Dreaming) comes from Wapurtali (Mt. Singleton), west of Yuendumu, and is held by Nakamarra/Napurrula women and Jakamarra/Jupurrurla men as its custodians.
The story tells of a kangaroo being cooked at Jalkirri, where smoke formed storm clouds that brought heavy rain. A great storm travelled across the land, creating soakages and water sites as it moved, before being carried westward by a bird and finally falling back to earth.
In Warlpiri paintings, traditional symbols represent this Dreaming: short dashes for clouds, flowing lines for floodwaters, and small circles for waterholes and riverbeds.
